Course
Description:
Course offered in Paris, France, where French Sign Language originated. Exploration of the visual language being communicated and cultural and historical markers of Deaf schools. Examination of the preservation of Signed Language. Experience includes cultural tours of museums and historical monuments led by local Deaf guides using sign language.

Course
Description:
Study of gestures as a form of communication and basis for visual language. Emphasizes use and understanding of facial expressions, gestures, pantomime, and body language. Students will create and perform stories using these elements. Course develops artistic translation skills. American Sign Language (ASL) or basic sign language is not required.

Course Title:Peer Learning Assistants in American Sign Language
Course
Description:
Students will serve as Peer Learning Assistants (PLAs) in a 1000- and 2000-level American Sign Language course. Working alongside the instructor, PLAs will serve as a resource to help students learn language functions and concepts, help promote language and culture models, and provide instructional support in and out of class.
Athena Title:AMSL Peer Learning Assistant
Nontraditional Format:Students will serve as Peer Learning Assistants for 3 hours per week in 1000- and 2000- level American Sign Language courses. In addition, they will spend up to 3 additional hours providing instructional support for the American Sign Language course.
