Description:
Explores the promulgation of laws from Sumer and Babylon to Greek and Biblical materials ending ca. 500 BCE. Exposes conceptions of law and the state as these mutate with social and political conditions, and the administration of the law as reflected in procedural records. Issues include the legal status of persons, citizenship and marriage, and economic regulation.
