Course Title: | Public Health and Healthcare Ethics |
Course Description: | Survey of ethical issues facing healthcare providers in the United States and the public health system. Students will be required to think critically about ethical issues in health care today, analyze complex situations, develop a personal position, and will be active participants leading weekly discussions from the reading. |
Oasis Title: | Public Health Ethics |
Nontraditional Format: | This course will review a number of topics and challenge students
to think critically about them. Classes will consist of lectures
and student led discussions. Guest lecturers will be drawn from
the academic community, as well as other institutions, e.g.,
hospitals, health departments, etc. A major goal will be a
research paper on one of the ethical issues reviewed in class.
Student papers will be presented to the class at the end of the
semester. |

Course Objectives: | Students will work in pairs to lead weekly discussions: The
weekly readings will be followed by discussion questions.
They will divide the questions as they see fit and lead class
discussion. In addition, each student will write a brief paper
answering the questions they were responsible for, due at the
end of that class session. |
