Course Title: | Professional Communication and Development for Natural Resource Students |
Course Description: | Students will improve their communication skills through
interactive lessons and assignments focused on professional
development topics. Students also will learn business etiquette
and communication techniques allowing them to be confident in a
variety of professional settings. An emphasis will be placed
throughout on preparation for careers in natural resources. |
Oasis Title: | PROF COMMUN DEVELOP |
Nontraditional Format: | Course will include a mix of traditional lectures and
experiential activities. Students will visit a career fair,
participate in mock interviews, conduct an informational
interview, and attend a business dining and etiquette dinner in
lieu of class 4-5 times during the semester. |

Course Objectives: | Students who successfully complete this course will improve
their written and oral communication skills while learning how
to apply for employment and how to strengthen their long-term
professional success.
Specifically, they will be able to:
1. Produce organized and professional written communications,
including resumes and cover letters.
2. Present effective oral presentations.
3. Identify multiple resources available to them during a job
search.
4. Demonstrate proficient interview techniques.
5. Understand the importance of networking and effective
communication skills over the long term. |
