Course Title: | Travel Journalism |
Course Description: | Travel journalism that shares three qualities: emphasis on
cultural awareness; ambition to provide depth or insight beyond
travel guidebook entries; and complexity of theme, material,
and structure. Students will explore a range of techniques that
travel journalists use to discover and verify information and
to tell stories and engage audiences. |

Course Objectives: | Students will report and post daily narratives to the class
blog; report, write, or produce one destination guide, based on
the 36 hours in _______; report, write, or produce one
enterprise story of a type associated with independent foreign
correspondents, using one or more media of their choice:
writing, photography, audio, video; read and respond to the
assigned text, "Introduction to Travel Journalism: On the Road
with Serious Intent."
This is a reporting and writing-intensive course. Each of the
15 days, students will spend 75 minutes in an early morning
class and 75 minutes in a late afternoon class. In between,
students will be expected to spend five hours reading,
reporting and producing stories--whatever the media. |
