Course Title: | Constitutional Law: Rights and Liberties (Honors) |
Course Description: | Part of a sequence of courses dealing with the theory and
practice of American constitutional law. Focus on the
relationship between liberty and authority, civil rights, and
liberties over time with a particular emphasis on First
Amendment and Equal Protection issues. |

Course Objectives: | Through readings, class discussions, and papers, students will examine the important
role played by courts and judges in defining the relationship between government
authority and individual rights. Students will learn various theories of
constitutional interpretation and the role of social and political forces in Supreme
Court decision making. By the end of the course, students will be familiar with
legal principles that guide analysis of issues involving civil liberties. |
