**Course** Description: | Important statistical concepts for bioinformatics are introduced
in the context of analysis of DNA sequence data. Statistical
topics include probability distributions, random variables,
sampling distributions, conditional and joint probability, and
stochastic processes. These are applied in analysis of shotgun
sequencing, DNA pattern analysis, sequence comparison, BLAST
searches, and other topics. |

**Topical Outline:** | Probability distributions, random variables, sampling
distributions, conditional and joint probability, the Poisson
process, random walks, and order statistics, shotgun sequencing,
DNA pattern analysis, DNA sequence alignment and comparison,
BLAST searches, and other topics. |
