Course Title: | Directed Project in Agricultural Education |
Course Description: | Guided learning experience applicable to student's program of
study under direction of faculty advisor. Provides an
opportunity for students to explore and apply multiple
pedagogical methods as part of their pre-service requirements. |

Course Objectives: | Students enrolled in AgEd 4000 will conduct specialized
projects in agriculture or agriculture education that will
contribute to the knowledge and skills of the student as a
future teacher of agriculture education. Students will plan and
conduct all work under the supervision of, and in close
consultation with, a member of the ALEC Department faculty. The
student will complete an approved project through individual
work or through work with a team of students. The faculty
member and student will work cooperatively to determine one or
more areas of needed improvement in the knowledge and skills
base of the student. The student, with approval of the
supervising faculty member, will propose learning goals for the
project and plan activities to accomplish those goals. The
project proposal must be approved by the supervising faculty
member.
Specifically, students will:
1) Develop a written project proposal, including learning
outcomes, activities, and methods and procedures.
2) Work independently or in a group under the supervision of
one or more faculty members to complete the proposed project.
3) Collect, analyze, and summarize data, or prepare a detailed
record of project activities.
4) Consult with the supervising faculty member on a regular
basis to provide timely updates, reporting progress and
difficulties.
5) Monitor all aspects of the project and suggest modifications
to the project plan as needed.
6) Prepare a final report, research paper, or monograph as
outlined in the proposal.
7) Demonstrate that the learning goals outlined in the project
proposal have been achieved.
Sample projects include:
1) Designing specialized teaching units and instructional
resources for agricultural education.
2) Designing and conducting experimental, historical, or
descriptive research projects in agriculture or agriculture
education.
3) Developing specialized skills identified in the proposal
through work in a laboratory, greenhouse, farm, etc.
4) Developing creative programs, methods, and procedures for
agriculture education classrooms. |
