Course Description: | Geochemical principles, materials, and processes related to the near-earth-surface environment. Systems studied include weathering and shallow groundwater; rivers, lakes, and oceans; diagenesis and deep groundwater; and the linkage of the rock and water cycles.

Course Objectives: | The goals of this course are (1) to enhance the application of chemical principles to
geology by geology students, and (2) to develop professional skills in synthesis of
data, scientific writing, and public presentation. Goal 1 is to be achieved through
lectures, problem sets, and two exams; Goal 2 is to be achieved through the project
(see below). |
