Course Description: | Personal and historical memory in literary texts. Discussion of "Geschichte" in its multiple meanings of history and story, questions of literary representation, and role of gender. Longer narratives supplemented by short stories, essays, interviews, and music that illuminate socio-historic contexts. Taught in German. |

Course Objectives: | To gain an understanding of how personal and historical memory function in literary
texts. Students will be evaluated on the basis of in-class discussions and oral
presentations, written assignments, such as essays and web-ct postings, and a final exam. |
