Course Description: | Designed to develop leadership competencies relevant for work in
healthcare institutions by introducing major theories and concepts
of leadership, ways of applying these to public health issues, and
providing opportunities for students to develop skills and
resources to further develop their own and others’ leadership. |

Course Objectives: | 1. Assess the diversity of leadership positions in public health
policy, management, research, and entrepreneurship.
2. Compare and contrast their own definition of leadership with
various differing theoretical perspectives and subsequently
refine their perspective accordingly.
3. Evaluate models of leadership, with particular attention to
the healthcare sector.
4. Develop an understanding of leadership and managerial styles,
including one’s own.
5. Identify and describe effective leadership and managerial
approaches to current and future challenges to public health
leadership and in healthcare organizations.
6. Develop and demonstrate leadership and managerial skills by
designing, developing, and implementing a health-related
partnership.
7. Describe principles for effective leadership communication. |
