Course Objectives: | Students will acquire in-depth knowledge of selected advanced
topics in phonetics and phonology that are not covered in
detail in other courses through reading and discussion of
scholarly articles and books. Building on the knowledge they
have acquired in introductory courses, they will evaluate
different theoretical approaches to these problems. They will
learn appropriate techniques for recording, measurement, and
analysis as well as other skills required to design and conduct
an independent research project within the areas covered by the
course and will communicate the results of their research in
oral presentations and written papers. This course will help
prepare students to carry out thesis or dissertation research. |
Topical Outline: | Students will explore specific topics in phonetics and/or
phonology within the framework of current theoretical
approaches. They will read and discuss the relevant scholarly
literature and develop and carry out an independent research
project related to the focus of the course.
The choice of topics and assigned readings will vary depending
on the instructor and the focus of the course. |
