Upon completion of this course, the successful student will be able to: * write harmonizations of given melodies using chords in all inversions and secondary dominant functions chords. * realize figured bass symbols in simple harmonic style. * compose a short, mainly diatonic work in small form for piano or piano and instrument. * analyze simple musical excerpts using Roman numerals and appropriate non-harmonic tone designation.
* Diatonic part-writing and analysis. * Introduction to chromatic harmony and analysis (secondary dominant functions). * Small form composition for piano and/or piano and instrument using diatonic and simple chromatic harmonic language.
Academic honesty is taken very seriously. Assigned homework, quizzes, and exams must be the work of each student alone. Any cases involving conduct of an inappropriate nature will be handled by Student Judiciary.
