Course Description: | Emphasis is placed on literary and cultural skills to promote
students' ability to read and analyze literary texts, while
concentrating on expressing themselves accurately in both oral

Course Objectives: | Emphasis will be placed on a wide variety of interaction-based
activities between the instructor and the students as well as
between the students and their peers. Readings will focus on
Lusophone literature and culture. Students successfully
completing the course should demonstrate the ability to analyze
literary texts from different periods, traditions, and genres.
Additionally, they should be able to engage in research and
communicate it via expository writing. |
Topical Outline: | Representative literary texts from the five literary genres:
poetry, drama, essay, novel, and short story. Portuguese
colonial influence in Brazil and Lusophone Africa. Major themes
discussed in the literature and cultures of the Portuguese-
speaking world. Fundamentals of writing research papers. |
