Course Objectives: | This class will expose students to the rich tradition of Spanish
cinema. The approach to films and secondary readings will
include some theorizing about the construction of an
interpretation of a society and its cultural production.
Discussion also will focus on the nature of filmmaking in
Spain, the tradition of documentary and narrative films, and
the ways in which culture has been examined through film. |
Topical Outline: | This class will have a mandatory weekly screening of each film
(2 hours per week) and a lecture period (3 hours per week).
Students will write weekly reflective papers analyzing the film
watched that week supporting their arguments with theoretical
readings. A research paper will be required at the end of the
semester. |
