Course Objectives: | This class will expose students to the rich tradition of Spanish-American cinema from a number of theoretical perspectives. The course also will focus on techniques of film and documentary production in Spanish America and the ways in which culture has been portrayed by both.
The student will use low-stakes writing to explain key concepts and theories; synthesize research on a topic to summarize current understanding; identify gaps in existing research to situate new projects; compose arguments informed by the literature/evidence; and engage in regular reflective writing to assess learning, thinking, and writing processes. |
Topical Outline: | This class will have a mandatory weekly screening of each film
(2 hours per week) and a lecture period (3 hours per week).
Students will write reflective papers analyzing the film watched
that week supporting their arguments with theoretical readings.
A research paper will be required at the end of the semester. |
