V. Social Sciences (9 hours)
- Students who have not met the Georgia and U.S. Constitution requirement by examination should enroll in POLS 1101.
- A passing grade on an examination on the history of the United States and Georgia is required to satisfy the United States and Georgia History Requirement for all persons receiving a baccalaureate degree from the University, unless exempted by one of the following courses: HIST 2111, HIST 2112. Examinations are given to freshmen during orientation and twice each semester by the History Department. Reexamination is permitted. Examination dates are announced in the Schedule of Classes.

Major Requirements
|
A baccalaureate degree program must require at least 21 semester hours of upper division courses in the major field and at least 39 semester hours of upper division work overall. Students in the Franklin College must earn a grade of "C" (2.0) or better in major required courses.

Required Courses (39 hours) Major Language Requirements - 9 hours Language Requirement: Choose three (3) courses at the the 3000-4000 level in ONE of the following: (9 hours) SPAN, PORT, or FREN
* Those that elect SPAN or PORT must include SPAN 3010 or PORT 3010 as one of the three courses.
Upper Division major Requirements - 3 hours Required Courses: ( 3 hours) LACS 4911 (senior-capstone course)
LACS TRACK - 27 hours
Choose nine (9) upper division courses from at least twoof the three (3) Tracks listed below. ( 27 hours minimum). Courses selected from the main concentrations track must represent at least two different departments. At least two of the nine courses must come from a second track.
Flexibility and innovation in program design will be encouraged. Course offerings within each track are not limited to the listings below. The list is meant to be a guide, but each student should consult with their academic and/or faculty advisor for courses tailored to the individual track. Some upper division courses have prerequisites that must be met; such courses may count towards general electives credits.
Please note: *Students are encouraged to complement formal course work at UGA with a semester study abroad experience in accredited Latin American colleges or universities or in semester-long UGA-sponsored study abroad programs.
