Description: African American Studies majors must take AFAM(HIST) 2000 as a part of Area V or Area VI of the general education curriculum. In addition to AFAM(HIST) 2000, students seeking a major in African American Studies must complete 24 credit hours in African American Studies courses for a total of 27 credit hours. Students must choose twelve (12) hours from one area of concentration listed below and six (6) hours from each of the other two areas: History and Culture; Behavioral and Social Inquiry; Languages, Literatures, and the Arts.

Available Graduate Programs: The Institute for African American Studies offers a graduate certificate in African American Studies. The program is designed for currently enrolled graduate students in good standing who are matriculated in Master's, Doctoral, Professional, and Specialist degree programs, as well as non-degree seeking enrolled graduate students.
