Career Opportunities: |
The breadth of geography as a discipline together with the flexibility of the undergraduate program allows students to tailor their coursework to suit the needs of a wide range of employers in business, government, and education. Opportunities in the technical fields of geographic information systems and mapping sciences continue to grow rapidly (see details of the interdisciplinary undergraduate certificate program in Geographic Information Sciences). Opportunities remain strong in the fields of regional development, urban planning, community organizing, social and environmental justice, and food geographies. Expectations
of Transfer Students: |
Transfer students intending to enter the geography major should complete Areas I-VI of the core curriculum. Preferred courses in Areas II, III, and V are listed under Program Requirements (A.B. and B.S.), as are Area VI requirements specific to each degree.

Scholarships: |
In addition to the various financial aid programs available through the University's Office of Student Financial Aid, the department offers the Merle C. Prunty Scholarship, which is presented annually to an outstanding junior. The department also presents a number of Alumni Awards every year to undergraduates with superior records. The department also offers financial assistance to help defray the costs of study abroad for those students who need such funding.

Internships are encouraged. An attempt is made to match an internship with a business or with a government agency which matches the students' interests. Students may apply at any time. Working hours and salary can vary greatly.
