| Course Objectives: | Students will review public relations management theory and practices to learn how
to advance the overall goals of the client or employer by managing relationships
through ethical communication. Specifically, they will: attain knowledge about
management theories and systems, which are the basis for public relations at the
management level; learn how to prepare a long-term, strategic public relations plan,
developing solutions to public relations problems based on management and
communication theories and the organizational mission and goals, and including such
basic managerial elements as goals and objectives, budgets and timetables; learn
about the importance and the process of crisis management; and develop an
understanding of ethical behavior, necessitated by PR's responsibility to deal
fairly with its publics, and of the basic tools that can be used to make an ethical
