Course ID: | CSCI 8220. 4 hours. |
Course Title: | Parallel and Distributed Simulation Systems |
Course Description: | The mechanisms used in parallel and distributed simulation
systems. Topics will include synchronization algorithms, data
distribution techniques, parallel and distributed applications
running on top of simulation executives, high-performance
analytic simulation, and distributed virtual environments. |
Oasis Title: | PARALLEL SIMULATION |
Prerequisite: | CSCI 4730/6730 or CSCI 4210/6210 |
Semester Course Offered: | Not offered on a regular basis. |
Grading System: | A-F (Traditional) |
|
Course Objectives: | At the conclusion of the course the students will have an
understanding of theoretical and practical aspects of parallel
and distributed simulation.
This course could follow Simulation and Modeling or Operating
Systems. It is focused on model execution, i.e., running
simulation models more efficiently and/or more effectively as
opposed to the modeling aspects focused on in Simulation and
Modeling. It uses concepts from operating systems such as
synchronization and data distribution but applies them to
simulation applications. Also, but to a small extent, the course
covers networking concepts but in the context of simulation
applications. |
Topical Outline: | 1. Introduction and fundamentals
2. Optimistic Simulation
3. Conservative Simulation
4. Distributed Virtual Environments
5. High Level Architecture (HLA)
6. Time Parallel Simulation
7. Paper Discussion/Reviews |
