Course Title: | Proseminar in Geography II |
Course Description: | The primary objective of the course is to enhance the
experience of new graduate students and their interaction with
faculty beyond Proseminar in Geography. This may involve
attending colloquial and professional development workshops and
other activities that stimulate development of first-year
graduate students. |

Course Objectives: | This objectives of this course are:
(1) to facilitate new graduate students interaction with
faculty;
(2) to allow new graduate students to become familiar with
research styles in geography through structured colloquia; and
(3) to foster professional development of new graduate students
through focused workshops. |
Topical Outline: | 1. attendance to colloquia;
2. written critiques of selected colloquium presentations;
3. mandatory workshops (about 2 per month) taught by selected
faculty on various topics (i.e., professionalism, vita
preparation, proposal writing, seeking funding sources, journal
article preparation, time management.) |
