Course Title: | Internship in Music Business |
Course Description: | This course is intended for music business program students who
show interest in an area of study and wish to pursue a
discipline of practical and applied experience in greater
depth. Students must be directed by department chair and
sponsored by an approved music or entertainment business. |

Course Objectives: | This course is designed to reinforce classroom theory, offer
practical experiences, on-the-job training and exploration of
career opportunities in the music and entertainment industry.
This course fulfills the following specific objectives:
• To help students compete more effectively in the job
market.
• To enable interns to assess the value of their
professional communication and/or music business courses as
preparation for jobs in the music and entertainment industry.
• To enable interns to evaluate realistically a decision
to enter the field of music business.
• To improve students’ professional skills while
understanding the structure and operation of an entertainment
industry organization. |

4. Research paper analyzing employer and tasks
1. One-Page Summary of Internship – Your one-page summary
should describe the internship firm and the interns’ goals and
duties before the start of the internship. List the following:
your name, company name, location of internship, dates worked,
short description of major activities, any training on special
projects, techniques or methods not previously encountered
2. Journal of Daily Activities – A daily written record of
on-the-job activities must be completed by each intern. Be sure
the dates of entry are kept in chronological order. The journal
should focus on your major activities, any new skills learned
and contact information for professional networking. The
journal will be a reference for the research paper and journal.
3. Employer Intern Evaluation Form – An evaluation form
will be mailed to your supervisor near the end of the term in
which you are enrolled. The completed form must be returned
directly from your supervisor to the internship instructor.
4. Research Paper – The research paper is to be based on
your work experience, description of major activities and
special projects. It should be typed and 10–15 pages in length.
Include a title page with your name, student ID number,
email address, supervisor name, company name and the dates of
your internship. Describe your internship experiences in great
detail. Discuss the employing firm’s structure, strategic plan,
prospects for the future and your assessment of the firm’s
future growth. Describe your responsibilities and their
outcomes. Discuss potential career opportunities at the firm. |
