Course Title: | Clinical Practicum in Financial Planning |
Course Description: | Supervised experiences designed to prepare the student for
involvement in the practice of financial planning, financial
counseling, financial therapy, and/or financial education.
Students provide direct assistance to members of the community
seeking financial planning assistance, or serve as consult to
ASPIRE Clinic staff, completing approximately twenty-five
direct contact hours. |

Nontraditional Format: | Course includes a service-learning project during the semester
that either employs skills or knowledge learned in the course
or teaches new skills or knowledge related to course
objectives. Students will be involved in the planning and
implementation of the project(s) and may spend time outside of
the classroom. Students will be engaged in the service-learning
component for approximately 50-75% of overall instructional
time. |

Course Objectives: | • Students will receive supervised experience in practicing
financial planning, financial counseling, financial therapy,
and/or financial education
• Students will learn how to effectively work with individuals
from diverse backgrounds and circumstances on important
financial matters
• Students will obtain experience in working within a
financial planning and counseling team
• Students will develop skills in case presentation, writing
of case notes, and conducting case research
• Students will increase their planning, counseling, and
therapy skills, develop a theory/system/philosophy of
helping/therapy
• Students will learn to capitalize on supervision/feedback |
