Course Description
Field experiences in classroom and community settings. The field experiences illustrate the concept of a separate organization and program for young adolescents, types of curricular plans for the middle grades, aspects of teaching in the middle grades, and the organization and staffing of middle grades schools.
Additional Requirements for Graduate Students:
Graduate students will have a reading list that varies from
undergraduate students and will be required to complete a
differentiated assignment.

Course Objectives
Students will observe young adolescent characteristics and learning in a classroom setting during a field experience. Students will observe and participate in classroom activities relevant to young adolescent education. Students will plan and teach appropriate lessons to a young adolescent class. Students will connect concepts from EDMG 5020 with their experiences in actual classrooms through reflective thought and practice. Students will communicate and collaborate with colleagues, school personnel, and university mentors in a professional manner. General Education Abilities: Communicate effectively through writing: Assimilate, analyze, and present a body of information in written forms. Adapt writing to circumstances and audience. Compose effective written materials for various academic and professional contexts. Communicate effectively through speech: Assimilate, analyze, and present a body of information in oral forms.
