Course Objectives
1. Develop portraits of the contemporary and future labor force in America in view of the diversity in the workforce, demographics, changing nature of the workplace, technology, and management structures. 2. Analyze data and related information about jobs of the future, broad and specific job skills needed, and the education required. 3. Inerpret the implications from portraits of the labor force and jobs of the future on educational porgramming, especially for secondary schools, technical colleges, community colleges and institutions of higher education. 4. Identify and analyze issues related to workforce effectiveness; e.g., parenting and family life, quality of life, work pausing, barriers to career-technical education, inequity and discrimination, and management structures. 5. Suggest solutions to workforce and related (e.g., family and quality of life) issues that are inherent to the effective preparation of people through the American career-technical education system. 6. Analyze issues and trends in public policy affecting education of the present and future workforce. 7. Identify policy questions that underlie workforce education and career-technical education at local, state, nationa, and international levels and examine alternatives. 8. Examine policy-making process at the local, state, and national levels. 9. Analyze sociological, economic, and political factors and perceptions that undergird federal and state workforce policies, education, and training systems. 10. Draw on data, good information, research, theory, and judgment to influence federal and state legislation affecting workforce education and career-technical education.
