Course Description
Honors students who have trained as peer advisors will supervise the freshman seminars, lead discussions and campus field trips, and work with the faculty advisor in the design and implementation of the freshman seminars.

Non-Traditional Format
Students will be on call for freshmen in their seminar. They will do significant training and planning prior to the semester in which they register. The classes will meet for two hours per week for the first half of the semester.

Course Objectives
This course serves as an introduction to teaching Introduction to Honors, as an Honors Teaching Assistant at the University of Georgia. The class is designed to prepare teaching assistants for their new role in the Honors Program. This course is designed to promote Honors Teaching Assistant interaction and the development of community of peer leaders. Our sessions will include: • Discussions of how to build community in your seminar, the Honors Program, the University and larger community of Athens Clarke County • Introduction to key Honors staff and resources • Introduction to key Honors Faculty members and engaged Honors students • On-going discussion of development of the Honors portfolio as a planning tool for your students • Discussion of range of options for dealing effectively with students and classroom situations The requirements for this course center primarily on discussing methods for being successful in the classroom. As such, being an active seminar participant will enrich not only your experience in this seminar but also your performance and enjoyment as an instructor. 1. Students must attend each class and actively participate in this course. 2. Students must be prompt, prepared and responsive with the Introduction to Honors seminar. 3. Students must report any excessive absences or failure to engage with activities of their students to the supervising instructor in a timely fashion. 4. Students must submit a status report on their students’ participation in the Honors Faculty Mentor Network. 5. Student must conduct individual meetings with each student and submit a final portfolios for their students.
