Course Description
A comprehensive design studio aimed at applying design knowledge and problem solving techniques to special interest projects in the local and university populations. In-depth study of the design process as it applies to the design of residential spaces, advanced space planning techniques, analysis/synthesis methods used in designing interiors, and designing within specified economic constraints. Application of this knowledge to comprehensive studio projects.
Additional Requirements for Graduate Students:
Graduate students enrolling in the course will be required (in
addition to completing the same requirements as the
undergraduates) to complete an additional in-depth, final
design project wherein they:
1) identify a type of residential building structure to
evaluate;
2) review existing and conduct new post-occupancy evaluations
for building structures similar to their final project type;
3) develop and write up case study reports from each post-
occupancy evaluation conducted; and
4) use the case studies to design a prototypical structure that
addresses all of the issues raised in the post-occupancy
evaluations.
