Art History Museum Internship


Course Description

Students will work with the professional staff at the Georgia Museum of Art on exhibitions, cataloguing, researching, and other related projects associated with the ongoing activities at the museum. A schedule of the assignments and a written summary of their work will be required.

Course Objectives

To demonstrate an understanding of the cataloguing, exhibition and preservation of works of art in the context of a museum.


Topical Outline

This course is a non-traditional format. In order to register for an internship, the student must first meet with the Director of the Georgia Museum of Art. In consultation with the director, the student will develop a project (or projects) for the semester. After approval of this project by the director, the student will devote the time normally associated with classroom activities and research to his or her project at the museum. In order to receive a passing grade for the internship the student must submit a summary essay before the last day of the semester to the director (the exact day, length, and content to be determined by the director and the student.
