Course Description

This is the second semester of a two-semester laboratory sequence of organic chemistry for honors students to accompany Advanced Organic Chemistry II (Honors).

Course Objectives

The student will learn basic principles of laboratory work in organic chemistry.


Topical Outline

The student will learn how to isolate compounds in pure form by extraction, distillation, chromatography or crystallization and how to analyze them. They will learn how to perform common organic reactions and to determine the structures of products using modern instrumental techniques such as gas chromatography, infrared spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
