Student learning Outcomes
The student will understand current approaches to research in cellular biology through a combination of attending lectures given by invited expert speakers in cellular biology and reading selected papers of the speakers as focal resources for learning. Other course objectives include development of the following skills: presentation, discussion, data analysis, and critical thinking.
The student will understand current approaches to research in cellular biology through exposure to expert speakers in the sub-disciplinary subjects of cell and molecular biology, developmental biology, molecular parasitology, immunology, cellular neurobiology and related areas.
The student will gain a detailed background for understanding the seminar through reading selected research papers of the seminar speakers and through discussion of the readings in a directed seminar setting.
The student will develop the skills of presentation, discussion, data analysis, and critical thinking.
Topical Outline
Subjects on which seminars focus comprise sub-disciplinary
subjects to the main departmental focus of cellular biology.
The sub-disciplines are cell and molecular biology,
developmental biology, molecular parasitology, immunology,
cellular neurobiology and related areas. In each semester, a
new set of comtemporary seminars, given mostly by external
experts, will be given, along with readings from the primary
literature.
