Course Description
Examines the representation of childhood in German juvenile literature in various genres. Issues of identity and self-realization in traditional and contemporary children's literature. Focuses on stories that reflect upon the art and value of storytelling, as well as the nature and function of creative imagination. Taught in German.

Course Objectives
Students, having investigated the representation of childhood in storytelling, will have studied major texts of German children's and juvenile literature from the last two centuries. Students will be evaluated on the basis of in-class discussions, written assignments, such as essays and short reflective papers, and in-class exams.
