Develops all four language skills: listening, speaking, reading,
and writing. Introduces the phonetic system and the Vietnamese
script. Fifteen dialogues contain situation-based conversations
which introduce basic vocabulary and grammar. Each lesson
contains several culture notes about the country and its
customs. Not open to native speakers.

Students will be able to use basic Vietnamese expression for classroom communication and conversational etiquette, such as greetings, introductions, and politeness markers.
Students will be able to demonstrate cultural awareness by using proverbs, expressions, and dialects variations appropriately with correction pronunciation.
Students will be able to engage in simple conversation with cultural sensitivity including asking and answering questions about personal information and is able to describe feeling using vocabulary and structure.
Students will be able to rite sentences and questions using Vietnamese grammatical structures.
Students will be able to write about personal and daily experiences using appropriate vocabulary and sentence pattern.
Students will be able to understand dialogue and texts from class material and answer comprehension questions.
Students will be able to comprehend spoken Vietnamese from various media sources, including folk songs and video clips, and identify key details.
