Course Description
Current status of and trends in the social science curriculum in secondary schools, with illustrations of selected curriculum models for both cognitive and affective learning.
Additional Requirements for Graduate Students:
Participate in and write analyses of microteaching and/or in-school practicum.

Course Objectives
Students will be able to: 1. Develop Lesson Plans for teaching social studies subjects. 2. Select effective learning activities for teaching social studies. 3. Compose valid and reliable assessment instruments to evaluate social studies instruction. 4. Demonstrate effective use of a variety of teaching techniques to help students learn. 5. Explain why learning activities were chosen for a given objective. 6. Describe the philosophical basis for the objectives, learning experience and assessment procedures used. 7. Present a rationale for teaching social studies that is consistent and comprehensive. 8. Develop a classroom management system that provides an effective learning environment for students.
