Course Objectives
To acquaint with and introduce the beginning student to the various techniques, technology, aesthetics, and theories of lighting design for entertainment.
Topical Outline
A. The basics of light: An overview of the functions and variables of light. B. The basics of electricity: An overview of the methods of distribution, terms, and safe use of electricity. C. The basic methods of designing with light: The variables and methods of aesthetic control of light. D. Aesthetic methods of designing with light: Dance, Musical Theatre, Naturalistic Concert, Television and Film lighting. E. Graphics: Drafting a basic plot with accompanying paperwork. F. Focus and Composition: Basic methods in developing cues and looks. G. Practical Lab Work: to include training in hanging, focusing, circuiting, coloring a theatrical light plot.
