Course Objectives

The aim of the seminar is to help students acquire an in-depth historical and cultural appreciation of a literary topic. The seminar will be organized so as to allow discussion of a particular cultural, literary and/or historical issue.


Topical Outline

The ever-expanding definition of nationality will be studied through literary texts that focus on women's experiences, the varied ethnic experiences such as Afro-Latin American, Indian and Gypsy, the questions of multiple identities from a Jewish perspective, the creation of gay cultural spaces, and the reclaiming and re-writing of heritage among Latina/o writers in the United States.
