Course Description
Through study of case material, students learn to integrate clinical and laboratory findings into an accurate diagnosis. Appropriate treatment and prevention plans will be formulated.

Non-Traditional Format
Students will spend at least one day per week during the term participating in field investigation of clinical cases. The minimum number of days/semester will be sixteen.

Course Objectives
The focus of this course will be either on beef cattle, dairy cattle, or swine production. Students successfully completing this course will be able to 1) diagnois problems commonly encountered by veterinarians in food animal production systems and 2) design appropriate treatment and prevention plans that address the cause of the problem. The student will provide documentation throughout the semester demonstrating mastery of core competencies to be placed in the student's portfolio. The competencies addressed will be defined by the consultation between the student and instructors at the beginning of each semester.
Topical Outline
Students will participate in field investigations of herd disease and performance concerns. They will offer diagnostic options and design treatment and prevention plans. Follow up communications with herd owners and veterinarians in the form of written reports are mandatory.
