Independent off-campus experience working as a veterinarian in a commercial food animal production company, pharmaceutical, biologic, animal regulatory agency, or diagnostic laboratory.

Course Objectives
To give students the opportunity to refine veterinary and management skills; to work with a mentor/sponsor in the execution of a clinically revelant research trial; to develop networks that advance future employment opportunities.
Topical Outline
1) With guidance from the faculty mentor, students will seek and gain sponsorship of an externship that offers an acceptable clinical research trial. 2) With assistance from externship mentor the student will contribute to the function of the sponsoring organization 3) Participate in the full range of veterinary and management related activities of the sponsoring unit.
