Course Objectives
By the end of this course student should be able to-- 1) describe the importance and mechanisms of soil erosion on cropland, forest land, and urban situations; 2) specify erosion control practices appropriate to a given site for agricultural, forestry, and urban land uses; 3) list important water quality impacts of sediment in streams and lakes; 4) evaluate methods for sediment control, particularly from urban sites, under a variety of soil and climatic conditions.
Topical Outline
1. Geologic and accelerated erosion 2. Historical significance of erosion 3. Erosion mechanics 4. Infiltration 5. Sediment transport 6. Principles of erosion control 7. Agricultural erosion and conservation 8. Forest land erosion 9. Urban erosion 10. Sediment in the environment
