Course Objectives

To give biology majors an in-depth exposure to new or rapidly advancing fields in plant biology in a relatively informal and possibly experimental environment. Primary instruction is by lecture and through an independent project. Some topics may require a field or bench laboratory. The independent project will usually be an analysis of current literature and will be presented as a written report and through an oral report. Improvement in communication skills will be emphasized, including a periodic individual review of written and oral work and guidance for improvement.

The course syllabus is a general plan for the course; deviations announced to the class by the instructor may be necessary. Topics vary with instructor and student interests. Topics may range from plant ecology to bioinformatics.
