Course Description
Foundational training necessary for the development of skilled proficiency in beginning ballroom dance. Ballroom dance requires a partnership, two persons forming a couple, made up of leads and follows. This course is open to those in the role of “leads,” who are traditionally males.

Course Objectives
The student completing this course will: Identify social and recreational opportunities for using ballroom dance skills Identify the national and/or ethnic origins of the standard ballroom dances Demonstrate basic rhythmic awareness Demonstrate basic-level leading of ballroom dance steps and figures and/or the completing of ballroom dance steps and figures Distinguish between movement technique employed in the standard-smooth dance forms and movement technique employed in the Latin dance forms Demonstrate beginning-level skills in the execution of the basic ballroom forms (foxtrot, swing, cha-cha, waltz, rumba, tango, salsa)
