Course Objectives
During the spring semester students will work to achieve the following practicum class course objectives: * understand the functions and system dynamics of the placement agency in a way that allows for assessing effectiveness in providing service, the climate as a work place, and the probability of survival within larger task environment * accurately plan an intervention process with a client system, implement that process, and evaluate subsequent effectiveness using data gathered and theoretical knowledge to make conclusions, predictions, and recommendations * demonstrate awareness of prejudices, biases, and stereotypes and to control for these in interactions with people * explore alternative resources when planning interventions and a willingness to incorporate these in carrying out a plan for a client * identify those factors that create stress in professional practice - both psychological and environmental - and plan a responsible program for reducing personal stress * continue to demonstrate effective interpersonal communication skills showing respect, warmth, and empathy for others * continue to demonstrate ability to adopt a professional role in work * continued awareness of oppression, diversity, and issues of social and economic injustice
