Course Description
This independent study course is designed to provide students with a variety of learning experiences in the field of disability through completion of prescribed activities in areas of directed readings, product development, and/or service learning under the supervision of the instructor. Students will attend designated number of IHDD seminars dependent upon the number of course credit hours (i.e., 1-3).

Course Objectives
Upon completion of the course, students will: (1) Develop a general awareness of disability issues through a variety of activities, including selected readings, seminars, topical discussions, and service learning. (2) Gain an understanding of a specific aspect of disability through in-depth study and focused activities in a chosen area. (3) Develop an understanding of disability issues as they apply to their chosen fields of study.
Topical Outline
(1) Each student will complete a minimum of 120 hours of specified fieldwork, training, or service project at IHDD or other community setting. (2) Each student will identify a topic or issue for in-depth study and engage in exploration of the issue through a variety of methods, including literature review and service learning. (3) Each student will choose and complete a minimum of one written product on a topic developed in consultation with the instructor.
