Student Learning Outcomes

  • Upon completion of this course, the successful student will be able to write all major and minor scales, key signatures, and triads from within keys.
  • Upon completion of this course, the successful student will be able to write short diatonic harmonization of given melodies using root position chords,
  • Upon completion of this course, the successful student will be able to compose diatonic melody using symmetrical phrase structure.
  • Upon completion of this course, the successful student will be able to identify patterns in simple musical excerpts using roman numerals and appropriate non-harmonic tone designation, drawing on all prior musical instruction including knowledge being learned in other courses such as applied music and class piano, leading to appropriate interpretation of the data.
