Course Objectives
Students will be able to: 1. Discuss the history of social studies in the United States. 2. Identify current issues in education and social studies that affect the nature of social studies curriculum. 3. Explain the psychological and philosophical underpinnings of a social studies curriculum 4. Select appropriate content and learning experiences to achieve stated goals for social studies. 5. Explain the role of diversity in selecting a curriculum for social studies. 6. Compose a curriculum plan that reflects local and national standards for teaching social studies. 7. Present a rationale for teaching social studies that is consistent and comprehensive. 8. Develop a curriculum model consistent with a stated rationale for teaching social studies.
