Course Objectives

Course Goals: After actively participating in this course, a student will be able to perform the following: 1)Monitor industry trends and utilize “Best Practices” 2)Review and analyze financial statements 3)Manage pharmacy margins by controlling inventory, accounts payables, and third party plans 4)Evaluate pharmacy business models and retail mixes by return on investment 5)Identify key factors to determine value for a pharmacy 6)Develop marketing strategies based on market research, customer needs, differentiation, and marketing systems 7)Communicate effectively with customers, staff, and colleagues 8)Demonstrate leadership skills of hiring, training, and delegating


Topical Outline

1.Independent pharmacy trends and business models 2.Financial management including: understanding financials statements, purchasing and inventory control, starting/buying a pharmacy, and insurance/third party prescriptions plans 3.Strategic marketing 4.Communications 5.Human resources leadership.
