Advanced Political Simulations (Honors)


Course Description

American domestic politics and the role of the United States in the world, focusing on specific policy areas. The course also contains an advanced simulation in which students are assigned to play various individuals in the government. The purpose of the simulation is to provide a “real world” feel for policymaking in Washington, D.C.

  • After completing this course, students should have a firm grasp of the functioning of the policy process at the federal level.

Topical Outline

  • I. Substantive Module Overview of constitutional designs for policymaking in the U.S. system Overview of presidential-congressional policy interactions and agenda setting Introduction to the federal appropriations process
  • II. Policy Module Introduction to the policy area on which the simulation module will be based (Note: The topic for this module can change)
  • III. Simulation Module Simulation exercise based on learning objectives outlined in Modules I and II
