Course Description

Introduces students to the Pilates Mat repertoire. The history of The Pilates Method is introduced, as well as the Pilates principles, guiding beginner Pilates students into a strong personal Pilates practice.

Course Objectives

Students will develop an understanding of the concepts, principles, body alignment, and modifications specific to The Pilates Method. Students will gain knowledge of the anatomy of the abdominal muscles, pelvic floor, spine, and diaphragm. Students will develop strength, control, postural symmetry, coordination, and length in the body. Students will learn proper execution and precision within beginning and intermediate level Pilates Mat exercises. Students will energize and center the body through the use of dynamic tension.
