Music Therapy Practicum IV


Course Description

Continuation of intermediate level of practical experience in conducting music therapy sessions with selected clients. Includes assessment, planning, implementation, and documentation of weekly music therapy sessions throughout the semester.

Field work under the supervision of a licensed music therapist (2-4 hours per week in the field plus preparation time).

Course Objectives

Students will demonstrate ability to: * provide music therapy experiences to improve the client's orientation to person, place, and time; * provide experiences to enhance the client's cognitive/intellectual development; * recognize and respond appropriately to effects of the client's medications; * demonstrate knowledge of professional standards of clinical practice regarding implementation of treatment


Topical Outline

* Basic knowledge of philosophical, psychological, physiological, and sociological bases for the use of music therapy * Principles and methods for evaluating the effects of music therapy * Development of the reflection process of the music therpist
