Course Objectives

Students will be able to: 1. Identify basic skills and be able to create developmentally appropriate learning sequences. 2. Implement, modify and use strategies for class management related to invasion activities, as categorized by the Teaching Games for Understanding approach, in programs of physical education. 3. Explain and demonstrate the ability to apply rules of invasion activities. 4. Demonstrate organizational skills and strategies necessary for teaching team sports in K-12 physical education programs. 5. Adapt to alternative teaching methods and environments to meet the needs of diverse students. 6. Utilize verbal feedback as a motivational technique. 7. Demonstrate skill in using a variety of assessment techniques appropriate for measuring student learning. 8. Demonstrate basic skills for soccer, team handball, basketball, ultimate frisbee, and flag football via standardized skill tests, written exams, and assigned projects. 9. Explain and apply knowledge of invasion activities as delineated by the Teaching Games for Understanding approach to physical activity instruction.
